Mediterranean Film Festival confirmed itself as one of the best and most popular cultural manifestations on Adriatic and its positive spirit during last 10 editions was recognized by more than 100.000 visitors. It is mostly because of the movies from the Mediterranean that have their regional or Croatian premieres and which cannot be seen in a regular cinema distribution. But the scent of old pines and rumors of the sea, sandy beach, smiley faces during the parties…it is all a bonus that visitors get during 10 days of the festival.
It is becoming more and more usual to ask for an extra ticket for the screenings in summer movie theater Bacvice, so no one is complaining when watching a film sitting on a bench or a towel. Moreover, that casual atmosphere gives to the FMFS the Mediterranean scent. During the day, the screenings are held in a beautiful movIe theater Zlatna vrata that is placed inside the walls of 1700 years old Diocletian’s palace. Except to the feature films, a great attention is being dedicated to the programme of short films, hosting famous Croatian and foreign movie artists, but also to the promotion of the young authors that more and more often choose the FMFS as the place for promoting their films. The children’s programme, “mali meDITEran” (Child’s Mediterranean) aims for children to get familiar with film art and during the FMFS there is an educational programme held “FilmInkubator” with lots of workshops and lectures for young movie makers, students and professionals and also for other citizens who are interested in film.

Besides the screenings, educational part and hanging out with our movie guests, the FMFS is well known for its parties at the summer movie theater “Bacvice” that are an ideal warm-up for the upcoming summer season. The thing the FMFS is so different for from the otherfestivals is the decision to share the positive energy from Split to other places. From 2012 there is the Kino Mediteran, the project of reviving the cinema in Dalmatia that aims to renew movie theaters and bring movie programmes in smaller towns in Dalmatia where cinemas have been closed for a long time. The programme is held in 25 towns, it is on during the entire year and in 2017, 27.840 viewers visited 587 movie screenings.
In case you have already decided to visit Split in June, don’t worry, you’ll not be the first one: we have already heard that vacations are being planned according to the dates of the FMFS! So write in your calendars 7-16 June 2018. Or find us somewhere in Dalmatia through the rest of the year!
