Hamburg, 23 October 2018
The Sequencer Tour, organised cooperatively by re:publica, next media accelerator and Reeperbahn Festival, is one of the lighthouse projects of the Deutschlandjahr USA, initiated by the German Federal Foreign Office and aiming a continuous and strong dialogue between the two nations. In the year from October 2018 to October 2019, the Sequencer Tour will stop in five American cities to develop new perspectives for the transatlantic exchange with music, art and culture playing a key role. As Europe’s biggest international music platform, Reeperbahn Festival as mediator between cultural imports and exports will present itself at the start of the tour in Los Angeles from 30 October to 03 November with a miniature edition, covering the areas art, live music and music business. Access to all events will be free.
Art Exhibition by Reeperbahn Festival
Klaus Voormann “It Started In Hamburg”
from 30 October to 03 November, Artspace Navel
Klaus Voormann’s graphics as well as musical contribution have been crucial for today’s pop culture: Apart from his brilliant cover art work for the Beatles Revolver album, his bass lines can be heard on the albums of John Lennon, Lou Reed, Manfred Mann and many more. His exhibition of graphic works, i.e. illustrations, graphic pictures and sketches from 60 creative years, celebrated its world premiere during Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, exactly where it all began – not only for Klaus Voormann himself – and will now take him to his former home Los Angeles. The vernissage with Klaus Voormann will take place on 30 October. The laudation will be held by none other than the musician and composer legend Van Dyke Parks, Klaus Vormann’s friend and companion of many years. Registration is possible [email protected]
Reeperbahn Festival International Showcase
Klaus Voormann’s shared history with the Beatles shows that the most thrilling modern music will have the greatest effect when performed on the stage of a small club. Reeperbahn Festival will present four bands at the Zebulon that will shape the future: songwriter Findlay (GB) will present her catchy pop, sometimes husky, sometimes more smoothly; Giant Rooks (DE) convince with their danceable indie hymns; beat maker Linafornia (US) is seen as a coming star of the hip-hop scene of Los Angeles, and the Lo-Fi hip-hop and R’n’B by rapper Mavi Phoenix (AT) was given the attribute “bewitching” by the US magazine Fader.
Reeperbahn Festival Music Matches
Bringing international music business experts together is one of the cores competencies of Reeperbahn Festival, as shown not only by the festival in Hamburg itself but also by its presence at the SXSW in Texas and the Reeperbahn Festival New York Edition. In cooperation with the International Music Managers Forum IMMF and the Deutscher Musikverleger-Verband e.V. DMV (German music publishers association), Reeperbahn Festival is inviting German and American representatives of the music industry to join a transatlantic exchange of ideas in the fields of management, recording, publishing and live entertainment. Case examples presented in several workshops will shed a light on successful strategies of European artists in the US market as well as US artists in the European market. Keynote interviews and Speed Meetings of German and American representatives of the business will round the program off. Further information regarding participation is available at [email protected]
Alexander Schulz, Managing Director Reeperbahn Festival:
